White wine glasses tend to be slimmer than red wine glasses. The narrow design is intended to allow the wine to retain its cool temperature as the small size of the bowl will reduce the heating effect of the hand. White wine glasses tend not to be as narrow as Champagne flutes.
White wine is generally served chilled, but not too cold as this will minimise the aromas and flavours.
Rieslings and everyday Chardonnays are best served at around 7 degrees Celsius (45 F) and more full bodied, high quality white wines, including Sauternes, are best served at around 10 degrees Celsius (50 F).
